Project Overview
Contract value: £2.2m
Natural Stone Installation Installation: 10,550 square metres
Client: Arora Hotels
In partnership with our sister company Chiltern Contracts, we were commissioned to provide a comprehensive supply and installation service for the new 5 Star Intercontinental Hotel – O2 London. The £120m hotel complex stands out in the buzzing Greenwich Peninsula, with 453 luxury rooms, a beauty spa and a huge pillar-free ballroom for up to 3,000. Spectacular Canary Wharf views are best enjoyed over cocktails in Eighteen Sky Bar, one of several dining destinations in the new hotel.
The stonework consisted of 10,500m2 natural stone tiling and cladding to walls and floors, and slabs for worktops, vanities, reception desks etc. with the installation culminating in a showcase entrance lobby astrolabe – an inlaid brass representation of the cosmos.
Polished granite makes up 60% of the scheme, from a wide range of varieties including ethically sourced stone from Norway, Germany, Spain and Portugal. Azul Platino, among other stone types, make up the majority of the vast entrance lobby areas with Jura Beige in a range of contemporary finishes to the walls. Blue Pearl from Norway provides a luxurious finish to the floors in the Hotel’s Spa leading to large areas of anti-slip Porcelain to the pool surrounds and changing rooms. The Clipper Bar is an architectural work of art with unrivalled floor to ceiling windows overlooking Canary Wharf; here the floor boasts Blue Pearl in a diamond pattern with contrasting inlays of white Carrara marble to compliment the ensemble.
Kerakoll environmentally friendly adhesives were used throughout the tiling work and Schluter – Ditra matting and tanking systems were employed to all under floor and wet room areas. The Schluter Dilex system provides visually gratifying and engineered cohesion to expansion joints and junctions.
